Tanasbourne Barnes & Noble in Beaverton, Oregon joins us to celebrate the Viking 40th Anniversary by hosting the first event of the year to meet Viking Team Members.
Learn about the mission from team members, hear new findings from scientists studing VIking data, and view original artifacts and archives.
We are very excited to introduce
James E. Tillman, Viking Mars Lander Meteorology Team Member, Lander Mission Planning, and Research Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington.
Al Treder, G&C Maneuver Analyst on prime mission flight team for Viking Mars Orbiter, and later lead GN&C engineer on Space Shuttle payloads and the International Space Station.
Melissa Guzman working with VMMEPP and NASA Ames Scientist Dr. Chris McKay, to restore the Viking GCMS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) data – essential historical and scientific data to questions of life on Mars.

Meet the Makers
VMMEPP brought Vikings across the country together with future Designers, Engineers, and Leaders at neighborhood Barnes & Nobles mini Maker fairs, to celebrate innovation, creativity and the art of #Make.
We want to thank Vikings J.B. Lovell, Dr. Ben Clark, Terry Gamber, John Newcomb, Len Clark, Bob Bushman, Matt Grogan, and Frank McKinney, as well as Barnes and Nobles and MAKE Magazine for making this event possible.
We would like to acknowledge the artist and paper model designer John Jogerst for designing the models we gave to Viking fans.

NASA Langley Viking Seminar
NASA’s Viking 1 successfully landed on the Martian surface 39 years ago making it the first visitor to the red planet. In celebration of the project’s recent anniversary, NASA’s Langley Research Center hosts a Viking seminar on Thursday, July 30 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Meet The Vikings
Viking Science and Engineering challenges and findings and how they influenced Mars missions through today, will be discussed with Viking Scientist and Opportunity and Curiosity consulting Scientist Dr. Ben Clark and MAVEN Principal Investigator / Viking Graduate student Dr. Bruce Jakosky at The Space Foundation Discovery Center in Colorado Springs, CO 11am and 1pm.
QA with the scientists and engineers between sessions.

The 40th Viking Anniversary Reunion & Education Day
VMMEPP hosted the Viking 40th Anniversary celebration at Wings Over the Rockie Air & Space Museum. From 10am until 4pm the public will enjoy face to face interaction with Viking Team members from NASA Centers and Viking mission contractors from around the country. Event Sponsor Lockheed Martin will host a table sharing their rich Mars Exploration achievements and a model of the Viking Lander. Exhibits by VMMEPP will include artists and speakers from across the country and a special Tributary Ceremony in the evening during the private Viking Reunion event with over 30 individuals from students to writers, inventors, and aerospace professionals and scientists whose lives were inspired by the Viking Mission and Team Members.
